FoodRight is a Milwaukee-based nonprofit whose mission is to empower youth to choose foods that sustain life-long health. Founded by Lisa Kingery in 2012, FoodRight partners with schools and community organizations to offer fun, hands-on, evidence-based gardening and culinary nutrition education. FoodRight’s programs teach youth to cook and enjoy affordable, plant-based meals inspired by world cuisines.
Led by nutrition educators like Lisa, FoodRight’s programs – including Youth Chef Academy – give students the chance to explore the connections between food, the food system and health. At the same time, kids learn to prepare and appreciate foods as chefs in-training.
Programming includes parents and teachers to promote lasting, positive changes in diet and health for the entire community. As of 2019, FoodRight has taught more than 5,000 children to cook 3,000 meals from scratch. FoodRight’s goal is to teach every school-aged child in Milwaukee to cook for life!
