Tips for Grilling Chicken:
It is important to make sure your chicken is fully cooked before consuming. The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) recommends using a food thermometer to ensure the grilled chicken has reached the safe internal temperature of 165°F. FSIS recommends checking the internal temperature in the innermost part of the thigh, wing, or the thickest part of the breast.
Whether you are grilling chicken thighs, chicken breasts, a whole chicken, or chicken quarters, these grilling tips will help you cook the most flavorsome grilled chicken:
- How to Avoid Burning Chicken Skin: To cook without burning the skin, it is important to grill your chicken at the optimal temperature. On a charcoal grill, cook your chicken at a medium-low temperature, and on a gas grill, medium temperature is ideal. If using a griddle pan, it’s recommended to use medium to low heat.
- How to Prevent Dried Chicken: Turn chicken frequently to ensure it is being cooked evenly. After the chicken has been grilling for about 30 minutes, add some of your Knorr marinade to the top of the chicken to prevent it from drying out.
- How to Test Chicken Readiness: Cook to test readiness, pierce the thickest part of the chicken with a skewer. If the juice runs clear, the chicken is done. If there are any signs of pink meat inside, leave it on the grill a bit longer. The safest way to guarantee your chicken is cooked is to use a meat thermometer in the thickest part of the chicken to confirm the internal temperature has reached 165°F, as recommended by FSIS.
- How to Prevent Burnt Chicken: If the chicken starts to brown before it's fully cooked, cover it with some aluminum foil and move it to the cooler side of the grill to finish cooking and avoid burning.
