Mark Brand founded A Better Life Foundation (ABLF) with a vision to provide dignified meals, tools and resources needed to disrupt the cycle of poverty throughout North America. Food is at the center of that work.
ABLF was established first in Vancouver, Canada in 2012 and provides 850+ daily meals to women and children fleeing violence, street entrenched youth and people below the poverty line through a partnership with Mark’s for-profit social enterprise Save On Meats diner. To date, they have served 2.3M+ meals to individuals in need and created more than 200 stable jobs, with 40% of that workforce having barriers to traditional employment.
In 2018, ABLF launched in the United States with dedication to changing the landscape by creating spaces of radical inclusion, hospitality and everyday advocacy. Mark and his team have designed programming that focuses on food systems education and accessibility for Americans in-need while encouraging human connection.
