Knorr's history began in 1838 with Carl Heinrich Knorr in Germany, focusing on preserving food through drying. The brand pioneered innovations like dried soups, the pea soup 'Erbswurst', sauce mixes, and the iconic Knorr Stock Cube in 1912. Introduced to the UK in 1949, Knorr has since expanded its product range, including Aromat, gravy cubes, and marinades, becoming a global brand enjoyed by millions daily.
The Knorr® story is one of culinary passion and innovation, beginning in 1838 when Carl Heinrich Knorr established his first kitchen in Heilbronn, Germany.
Initially supplying chicory, he soon pioneered methods for drying vegetables and seasonings to preserve their nutritional value and flavour. This dedication to quality led to the launch of Knorr's first dried soups across Continental Europe in 1873. Key milestones include the introduction of the nutritious 'Erbswurst' (pea soup) in 1889 and the groundbreaking Knorr® European sauce mix in 1908.
A significant innovation arrived in 1912 with the first Knorr® Bouillon cube, later known as the Knorr® Stock Cube, revolutionizing home cooking by making rich stock accessible without the need for scratch preparation. Carl Heinrich Knorr's pioneering spirit continues to inspire Knorr® Chefs worldwide, ensuring Knorr® products, enjoyed by 320 million people daily, still bear his iconic signature. Today, our global kitchens are hubs for hundreds of chefs dedicated to crafting recipes that deliver authentic, delicious flavours, reflecting a deep understanding of local tastes and global cuisines.

Knorr in the UK & Ireland: A Taste of History
Knorr's presence in the UK and Ireland began in 1949 with the introduction of the Knorr Stock Cube and packaged soups. Shortly after, Knorr® Aromat, a popular blend of herbs and spices, was launched. The first Knorr factory in the UK opened in Welwyn Garden City within twelve years.
Knorr enhanced its Stock Cube recipes for chicken and beef and introduced Quick Soups in various flavours, some of which remain popular in Ireland today. The 1980s saw further innovation, including a Mutton Stock Cube for Scottish consumers and the national launch of Knorr Gravy Cubes, Marinade Mixes, and Pasta Sauces.

The year 2000 marked Knorr joining the Unilever family, leading to the launch of numerous new products. Although Knorr's Chicken Tonight and Ragu ranges were later sold, the brand continued to innovate with the introduction of Knorr Gravy Pots in 2012 and a new Gourmet Range.
