French Onion Ramen

  • 2 Tbsp. butter
  • 3 large onions , thinly sliced
  • Pinch salt
  • 2 garlic cloves , minced
  • Optional : a small splash of white wine
  • 6 cups water
  • 2 Tbsp. Bovril® Liquid Beef Bouillon
  • 1/2 Tbsp. soy sauce ( optional )
  • 2 packages instant ramen noodles ( discard seasoning packets )
  • 1 ½ cups shredded Gruyere or Oka cheese
  • 2 green onions , thinly sliced

  1. Melt butter in large pot over medium heat.

  2. Add sliced onions and salt and cook 10 to 15 minutes, stirring often, until golden and tender.

  3. Add garlic and cook 1 minute until fragrant.

  4. (Optional) Deglaze with a splash of white wine.

  5. Add water, Bovril, and soy sauce (if using) and bring to a simmer over medium-high heat.

  6. Add ramen noodles to simmering broth and cook 2 to 3 minutes, stirring to separate noodles until noodles are just tender.

  7. Ladle soup into oven safe bowls. Top evenly with mounds of cheese.

  8. Broil 1 to 2 minutes until bubbly and golden. Sprinkle with green onions and top with freshly cracked black pepper if desired.
