Hands up if you’ve got a family who can’t have enough of Pinoy-style Carbonara. There’s a big chance the crowd favorite is a hit in your household, as it is in most family get-togethers and potluck parties. After all, nothing soothes the soul more than a piping hot, creamy pasta dish. Add crumbled bacon to the Carbonara recipe, and you’ve got your kids begging you to add this to their list of favorite baon.
Unlike Italian Carbonara, this version uses heavy cream, skips the raw egg yolks at the end, and uses Knorr Cream of Mushroom Soup for an added savory flavor. To make it healthier, you can add sliced mushrooms and spinach — an easy peasy way to get the kids to eat their veggies. Check out this simple six-step Carbonara recipe you can add to your arsenal of faves.
Pinoy-style Carbonara Ingredients:
- 300 g spaghetti
- 12 strips of bacon, cut into ½ cm slices
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- ½ cup button mushrooms or enoki mushroom
- ¼ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 (68g) pack Knorr Cream of Mushroom dissolved in 3 cups of water
- Optional: 30 g spinach leaves picked
- 1 cup all-purpose cream
- salt and pepper to taste
- grated Parmesan Cheese
Cook
Step 1 :
Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain well and set aside.
Step 2:
In a pan, cook the bacon until crispy and set aside.
Step 3
Using the same pan, add the butter and sauté the garlic until light brown. Add sliced mushrooms and all-purpose flour. Mix well.
Step 4
Add dissolved Knorr Cream of Mushroom Soup and allow to simmer until slightly thick.
Step 5
You may add spinach leaves at this point. Add the all-purpose cream—season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well. Do not simmer or boil, as the cream will curdle. Turn off the heat and toss in the cooked pasta.
Step 6
Arrange the pasta on a plate, then top with crispy bacon and Parmesan cheese.
This dish is perfect for the pinoy taste, and it offers the warm, comforting hug a heaping bowl of pasta always does. Pair it with roast chicken, a salad, and you’ve got yourself the ultimate meal to impress anyone, even your biyenan. The best part? It requires virtually five minutes of prep time and ingredients you already have in your pantry or local supermarket.

If Americans have chicken noodle soup for sick days, Pinoys reach for either a bowl of sopas or a bowl of Arroz Caldo. Perhaps it’s the simplicity of the dish and nostalgic memories of mothers making a pot of this porridge, but you can agree that nothing beats the comfort a bowl (or two!) that it brings. Keep making memories with your family by making a pot of home-cooked Arroz Caldo using this recipe. Don’t be afraid to play around with toppings or substituting if you want a vegan friendly option.
