No-Fuss Teriyaki Chicken Recipe, Only 10 Minutes to Prepare

Teriyaki Chicken is an ever-present menu item in a Japanese restaurant. Commonly served over a hot bowl of rice, this chicken dish is well-liked by children and adults. Contrary to popular belief, an authentic Teriyaki Chicken recipe doesn’t require you to marinate the meat. Hence, it’s a quick recipe that you can rely on whenever you’re strapped for time and have few ingredients left in the fridge.

Little did you know, teriyaki sauce is very easy to make at home — using readily available ingredients. Plus, you can use this homemade teriyaki sauce for grilling seafood, cooking beef, and stir-frying vegetables. In just 10 minutes, you can prepare a classic Teriyaki Chicken from scratch.

Our Teriyaki Chicken recipe may seem simple at first glance, but it sure packs a tasty punch. The secret? Add a single Knorr Chicken Cube to bring out the natural flavor of chicken and balance out the sweetness from brown sugar or honey. If your local supermarket runs out of mirin, you may substitute it with rice vinegar. Just make sure to counteract the sourness by adding ½ teaspoon of sugar for every tablespoon of vinegar you use.

Crunchy Bicol Express Ingredients

  • ½ kg chicken thigh fillet, remove skin
  • 1 pc Knorr Chicken Cube, mashed
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1½ cup rice wine
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar or honey
  • 4 tbsp sesame oil canola oil as needed
  • Toasted sesame seeds

Step 1

Combine Knorr Chicken Cube, ginger, soy sauce, rice wine, brown sugar and sesame oil. Mix everything thoroughly in a bowl with chopsticks or a spoon before adding the chicken pieces. Leave this for 30 minutes to infuse the flavor.

Step 2

Heat your pan on high and pour a little amount of oil. Once the oil is hot, fry the chicken. When the chicken turns brown, pour the marinade mixture and cook slowly on low heat.

Step 3

Once the chicken is cooked, take it out of the pan and transfer to a serving plate. Leave the sauce in the pan.

Step 4

Remember to stir the sauce until the mixture becomes thick. Once done, pour the sauce on the chicken and sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on top.

Step 5

Serve and enjoy!

To make your Teriyaki Chicken more unique, you can cook it with vegetables. Try stir-frying your chicken with broccoli, mushrooms, or carrots. And if you’re including vegetables, you may want to use more sauce so the flavor doesn't get watered down. For a healthier alternative, you may switch the chicken thighs with chicken breasts. Last but not least, serve Teriyaki Chicken with several side dishes, such as Chicken Peanut Gyoza and Zucchini Noodle Nests.
