The Ultimate Beef Tapa Recipe for an Unforgettable Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Skipping it can make you feel grumpy and weary throughout the day. Hence why Filipinos take this to heart and prepare hearty meals for many indulge in every morning. Although hot pandesal dunked in coffee hit the spot for some people, most tend to seek out a fulfilling meal like Beef Tapa with fried rice.

Sinangag and itlog or garlic fried rice with egg are the foundations of any silog meal. Categorized as a standard almusal menu item, the silogs include tapa meals that can be eaten at any time of day. Each plate contains carbohydrates, proteins, and some vegetables in the form of atchara (a mix of pickled onions, carrots, bell peppers, papaya, etc.), helping you get ready to face the day.

And unlike the other breakfast options, learning how to make Beef Tapa is the perfect beginner recipe for cooks who are trying to learn how to cure meat. Here is a quick and easy Beef Tapa marinade you can follow..

Beef Tapa Ingredients:

  • 1 kg beef sirloin slices, ¼” thick then pounded
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pc Knorr Beef Cube, mashed
  • 1/4 cup Knorr Liquid Seasoning
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup corn oil (for marinating)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (diluted with 30 g water)
  • 1/4 cup corn oil (for frying)
  • 5- 6 cups cooked rice
  • toasted garlic

Step 1 :

Most of the time, Beef Tapa is served tough and dry, since its main inspiration comes from jerky. But it is less enjoyable to eat dehydrated meat strips for breakfast. To make a tender Beef Tapa, begin by pounding those sirloin slices thinly. Sprinkle the baking powder over the meat and allow it to sit for a few minutes in the chiller.

Step 2:

To flavour these meat slices, you need to combine the Knorr Beef Cubes with Knorr Liquid Seasoning, sugar, oil and the meat slices in a bowl. Massage well and transfer in a food-grade container. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour or overnight in the chiller.

Step 3

When frying the tapa, make sure you have a hot pan ready with a little bit of cooking oil. Cook this until brown. Remove and transfer the meat into a serving plate and set aside.

Step 4

In the same pan, add the marinade mixture and thicken this with the corn starch mixture. You can now pour this onto the tapa.

Step 5

Beef Tapa is also a comfort dish and is best enjoyed with a bowl of hot rice that has been seasoned with Knorr Liquid Seasoning and cooked in a hot wok. With the addition of toasted garlic on top of your rice, the nostalgic taste of this breakfast meal really wakes you up. If you want to serve an authentic Tapsilog dish, pair the tapa with fried rice, sunny side egg, tomatoes or some atchara

Thanks to this easy-to-follow Beef Tapa recipe, more people can replicate this beloved beef dish at home. Because of the marinating process, the flavors infuse nicely onto the strips of meat. Aside from beef, other protein alternatives that can be used are pork, mutton, venison, horse, and tuna to name a handful of examples.

Make this a staple by always having marinated homemade tapa in your freezer. It can be your go-to meal for days when you are pressed for time. And if you are on a keto diet, you can always drop the rice and make a Beef Tapa version of this Shawarma recipe instead.
