Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 tsp. vegetable oil
  • 2 slices bacon*, coarsely chopped
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 leek (white part only), finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/2 carrot, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 1/2 tsp. dried Italian seasoning
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 1/2 cups split peas, rinsed and drained
  • 1 tub Knorr® Homestyle Stock - Chicken
  • 3 cups water
  • 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
  • Chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Directions

  • Heat oil in large saucepan and cook bacon over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until cooked, about 5 minutes. Stir in onion, leek, carrot, garlic, Italian seasoning and bay leaves and cook, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are almost tender, about 5 minutes. Stir in peas, Knorr® Homestyle Stock - Chicken and water and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer covered, stirring occasionally, 40 minutes or until peas are tender. Stir in black pepper. Remove bay leaves. Garnish with parsley.
  • *Substitution: Use 1/4 cup cut-up cooked ham or smoked sausage instead of bacon.
