Chef Suzanne Barr

Suzanne’s love of cooking began in the kitchen with her grandmother, learning traditional Eastern European recipes. 

Her passions for creating comforting dishes for the everyday home have only grown since. 

After completing a degree in Food Science, Suzanne helped develop innovative fat- and cholesterol-free baked goods at Entenmann’s. Her love of crafting homemade jams and jellies led to her developing recipes for two cookbooks.

Suzanne went on to refine her culinary technique at the Institute of Culinary Education, and after graduating with honors, worked as a recipe developer and food stylist.

Outside her professional work, though, Suzanne feels right at home in the family kitchen. She learned from her grandmother just how much food is tied to heritage and culture, and that cooking is a joy, instead of a chore. “Food is much more than just sustenance, it brings people together, enables them to explore other cultures, builds memories and brings joy & celebration—that’s powerful!” she says.

As a Principal Chef on the Knorr Culinary Team, Suzanne creates tempting recipes like Creamy Bruschetta Chicken, and helps develop new products. She lives with her husband and two daughters in Montclair, NJ.  

Essential kitchen ingredient: 

Kosher salt—used in the correct way, salt plays a critical role in the flavor of both savory and sweet foods. And now the trend is flavored salts, which enable so much creativity.

Best kitchen shortcut or tip:

I do a lot of baking and early on learned to foil-line baking pans—it’s really helpful for easy removal of baked items like brownies and also reduces clean-up. Also, mini ice-cream scoopers are perfect for both making cookies and filling cupcake liners with batter.

Advice for home chefs:  

Invest in good knives. It will make all your cooking so much easier when you have the right tools.

One dish to eat the rest of my life:  

I love food too much to eat just one dish for the rest of my life!

Favorite kids' dish that you also love:

Homemade mac & cheese.

On my days off you can find me:  

Enjoying the outdoors and spending quality time with my husband and two daughters.
